Conference of School Heads of the Costa del Sol
“What does a school Head do?” Not a lot, some would say! But the school Heads of the Costa del Sol schools are certainly all busy people! The Second annual meeting of this group, involving, eleven schools from the region of Andalucía stretching from Sotogrande in the West to Almuñecar in the East, took place Friday 9th November. Each took a half-day out of their busy schedules to attend a conference hosted by Laude San Pedro International School. The object of the meeting was to share and collaborate on as many of those things that they could which affect the teaching and learning of children. They looked at such things as sports events and competitions, training and professional development, ICT innovations, and the sharing of information between schools to enhance the experience of both parents and children. The meeting was fruitful and everyone learned a great deal, as well as getting to know their colleagues on a personal level.

On the photograph we can see students with a selection of their mind-blowingly good spooky culinary creations.

We are an International School, and our strongest bond is that of being children from the many nations of the world. Wednesday 24th October was the 67th birthday of the founding of the United Nations, an organisation dedicated to helping bring peace to the nations of the world and to improve the lives of the poorest, the hungry, the dispossessed, the homeless, the refugees, and above all to the world’s children. Some of the those hardest hit by poverty, war, disease, forced child labour, child soldiering, exploitation, physical and sexual abuse and who are denied the right to education are being helped to lead normal lives through the help of UNICEF.
On Thursday 25th, we celebrated this birthday with a parade of our internationalism: food, flags, and national costumes formed a colourful backdrop to a whole-school event which also included a visiting speaker from UNICEF, some films, and a live student debate on the subject of the Death Penalty. Not only an enjoyable day from which we all learned a lot, but a key event in the calendar of any International School. |
