Academic excellence in Sixth Form is driven by specialist teaching and a structured programme designed to maximise A Level success. Students benefit from five hours of subject teaching per week alongside regular tutor sessions that provide academic guidance and daily check-ins. Progress is closely monitored through regular assessments and modular exam results, with close collaboration between the Head of Secondary, Head of Sixth Form and subject teachers to implement targeted interventions where needed. Students develop the independent study habits required for university-style learning, as A Levels are recognised globally as the gold standard for post-16 academic preparation. Success is celebrated through assemblies, social media recognition and prestigious awards such as the Dux Academicus for the highest-achieving student in Year 13, while families remain informed through regular communications and updates.
Sixth Form is a transformative stage where students develop the personal qualities needed for success in university and adult life. Through leadership roles such as Prefects and student representatives, as well as opportunities to present in assemblies and organise school initiatives, students strengthen their confidence, teamwork and communication skills. Daily tutor sessions and close mentoring from teachers provide personalised academic and pastoral guidance, while wellbeing is supported through study skills workshops, counselling services and dedicated social spaces for Sixth Form students. These experiences help students develop resilience, determination and self-management during an academically demanding stage. Strong partnerships with families, including workshops and open communication channels, ensure students receive consistent support both at school and at home.
Multilingual communication is essential for success in global universities and careers. In Sixth Form, students refine their academic English through lessons taught fully in English and additional preparation for internationally recognised certifications such as IELTS where required. Students who are fluent in other languages can pursue additional “ghost language” A Level qualifications, further strengthening their academic profile. Dedicated language teachers provide support through conversation groups and extended curriculum sessions that encourage confidence in speaking, writing and critical discussion. For students requiring additional support, EAL specialists and the MEP programme offer targeted guidance. These opportunities ensure students graduate with strong multilingual skills, enabling them to access universities worldwide and adapt successfully to diverse cultural environments.
Sixth Form students engage in a wide range of international experiences that broaden their perspective and strengthen essential skills for the future. Opportunities include participation in the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), TEDx events and charity initiatives organised through the house system. Students also take on leadership roles within houses and the wider student body, developing initiative, responsibility and global awareness. These programmes encourage independent thinking, resilience, empathy and teamwork while allowing students to explore their passions beyond the classroom. Preparation for participation includes assemblies, workshops and mentoring from teachers. Achievements and experiences are regularly shared with families through school communications, celebrating students’ impact and engagement in a global context.
The Future Pathways Programme provides comprehensive support to help Sixth Form students make informed decisions about university and career options. Through weekly sessions, students learn how university applications work, how to select the right institutions and how to prepare competitive applications. They receive personalised guidance through one-to-one meetings with a Future Pathways mentor and practise essential skills such as interviews through mock interview sessions. Digital platforms such as Unifrog help students research courses, track application progress and explore international opportunities. Families remain closely involved throughout the process through regular communication and guidance sessions. By the end of Sixth Form, students have the confidence, knowledge and qualifications required to successfully transition to leading universities and global career pathways.
