Secondary School and Sixth Form

In Secondary, students consolidate trilingual fluency in English, Spanish and a third language - German, French or Mandarin - supported by the MEP programme and official IGCSE examinations. In Sixth Form, they achieve advanced bilingual mastery through Cambridge and Pearson A Levels, earning recognised qualifications that open pathways to universities worldwide.

ESO and Bachillerato

During ESO, students strengthen academic fluency in English and Spanish while studying a third language - German, French or Mandarin - with personalised EAL support available through the Mastering English Pathway. In Bachillerato, they refine high-level academic communication through English-led learning, international qualifications and official Cambridge exams, preparing for success at universities worldwide.

Language learning at Laude San Pedro

Languages are a central part of life at Laude San Pedro. Through a multilingual community and dedicated language programmes, students build strong communication skills in English, Spanish and additional world languages.

Multilingual community

Celebrating linguistic diversity

At Laude San Pedro International College we celebrate the rich linguistic diversity of our community. Many of our students speak two, three or more languages, creating an international learning environment where languages are valued as a strength. Our goal is for every student to develop strong communication skills and achieve at least B2 level in an additional world language by the end of their school journey, preparing them to succeed in global academic and professional contexts.

MEP Programme

Mastering English for success

Our Mastering English Pathway (MEP) supports students in developing confident and effective English communication. Through structured language development, students strengthen both everyday communication and the academic language needed for success in subjects across the curriculum. The pathway provides personalised instruction in small groups, focusing on speaking, listening, reading and writing. Lessons are interactive and project-based, allowing students to apply English in practical, real-life contexts while building confidence and fluency.

World languages

Learning languages for life

Alongside English and Spanish, our World Languages programme encourages students to explore additional languages and cultures such as Chinese, German or French. Through engaging lessons, cultural connections and real-world communication, students develop the linguistic skills and intercultural understanding needed to thrive in international environments. Our goal is not only language proficiency, but also global awareness and respect for cultural diversity.

How students learn languages

Our teaching approach helps students develop both everyday communication and the academic language needed to succeed across subjects, supporting confident and effective multilingual learning.

  • Language skills

    Language skills

We develop both BICS (Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills) and CALP (Cognitive Academic Language Proficiency). This means students learn to communicate confidently in everyday interactions while also mastering the academic language needed to succeed.

  • Translanguaging

    Translanguaging

We use multilingual teaching strategies to support deeper learning. Students are encouraged to draw on all the languages they speak to connect ideas and clarify concepts. By recognising the value of every language, we help learners strengthen cognitive skills, confidence and academic performance.

Learning beyond the classroom

Language development continues beyond lessons through family involvement, cultural experiences and research-informed practice that help students grow as confident multilingual communicators.

Family partnership

Families play a vital role in supporting multilingual development. We encourage parents to reinforce language learning at home through daily conversation, shared reading and meaningful activities. Discussing school topics in the home language, reading books or news articles together and celebrating linguistic progress all help students strengthen vocabulary, comprehension and confidence.

Cultural connections

Language learning extends beyond the classroom through cultural and community experiences. Activities such as storytelling, cooking traditional recipes, music, art and cultural events allow students to practise languages in authentic contexts. These experiences help children connect language with identity, culture and global understanding while developing pride in their linguistic heritage.

Research-based approach

Educational research shows that maintaining and developing a child’s home language strengthens cognitive development, academic achievement and the ability to learn additional languages. By working together - school and family - we help students become confident multilingual communicators who can think critically, connect cultures and succeed in an increasingly global world.
