At our British secondary school we follow the British curriculum, known for its academic rigour and holistic approach to student development. This system is structured in two key stages, which are equivalent to ESO in Spain. The British curriculum is widely recognised and valued internationally. We offer guidance on the equivalence of the British and Spanish systems, ensuring a smooth transition and recognition of studies in both contexts.
Key Stage 3 (ages 11–14) follows the British curriculum and builds strong academic foundations while encouraging curiosity, creativity and confidence. Students develop key skills such as critical thinking, communication and problem-solving through engaging lessons led by native-speaking teachers. This stage allows pupils to explore a wide range of subjects, discover their interests and prepare successfully for the academic demands of Key Stage 4 and the IGCSE programme.
Subjects include:
Key Stage 4 (ages 14–16) marks the start of the IGCSE pathway, a globally recognised qualification. Students follow core subjects while choosing optional courses that match their interests and future aspirations. This personalised approach encourages independence, responsibility and deeper academic understanding. With expert guidance and a rigorous British curriculum, students develop analytical, practical and study skills that prepare them for further education in Spain, the UK or internationally.

Academic excellence is built through a structured approach that prepares students for IGCSE success from the early years of Secondary. The curriculum is carefully mapped backwards from IGCSE specifications, ensuring that knowledge, exam literacy and academic vocabulary develop progressively from Year 7 onwards. Students regularly practise exam-style questions, retrieval activities and revision strategies while learning how to interpret mark schemes and command words. Progress is closely monitored through baseline assessments, termly data tracking and standardised assessments. Teachers provide targeted interventions, stretch programmes and after-school revision workshops so every student can reach their full potential. Alongside strong subject knowledge, students develop essential exam techniques, time management skills and resilience under pressure.
Beyond academic success, students build essential life competencies that prepare them for university, careers and life. Leadership, communication, collaboration, resilience and global awareness are embedded across lessons, enrichment programmes and the school’s leadership structure. Students take on increasing responsibility through roles such as Head Students, Prefects, Form Captains and Sports Captains, while house competitions, project-based learning and public speaking opportunities strengthen teamwork and confidence. Wellbeing is supported through a strong pastoral system including Form Tutors, Heads of Key Stage and the PSHE curriculum, ensuring students feel supported during adolescence. Through regular mentoring, tutor conversations and participation in school life, students grow as confident, responsible and socially aware individuals.
As an international school in Spain, multilingualism is central to students’ academic experience. English is the primary language of learning, while Spanish remains essential for cultural and national integration. Students study English Language and English Literature to IGCSE level, while continuing Spanish through Lengua and Cultura. They can also choose additional languages such as French, German or Mandarin Chinese, with the opportunity to complete IGCSE qualifications in these subjects. Language learning is reinforced across the curriculum through academic vocabulary, structured speaking routines and extended writing tasks. Students following the MEP programme receive targeted EAL support, including small-group teaching and vocabulary development. This multilingual environment enables students to communicate confidently and prepares them for global academic and professional pathways.
Secondary students benefit from a wide range of international opportunities that extend learning beyond the classroom. Through programmes such as IGCSE, the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award and ILOS competitions, students develop resilience, initiative and leadership. They can also participate in activities such as STEM Fair events, chess tournaments, filmmaking competitions and charity initiatives organised through the house system. These experiences help students gain a deeper understanding of global issues while fostering empathy, independent thinking and collaboration. Preparation for participation includes assemblies, mentoring from teachers and structured guidance. Achievements and experiences are regularly shared with families through school communications, assemblies and student testimonials, celebrating student success and global engagement.
Career guidance begins early through the Future Pathways Programme, helping students explore their interests, strengths and future ambitions. During Key Stage 3, students engage in aspiration-building activities, while in Key Stage 4 the programme becomes more structured as they select subjects and prepare for future pathways. They benefit from careers assemblies, university and alumni talks, workplace insight events and personalised options guidance interviews. Tutors and teachers support students through reflection activities, leadership opportunities and academic data analysis to guide informed decisions. Families are closely involved through options evenings, guidance meetings and regular communication. By the end of Secondary School, students develop strong study habits, recognised qualifications and the confidence to make informed choices about university and career opportunities worldwide.
At the heart of our vibrant international school are the values of resilience, empathy, aspiration, courage, and honesty. Our Mastering English Pathways programme offers a tailored approach to language development, while our dedicated support team ensures every student thrives both academically and personally.
