In Primary School, students grow in confidence and independence while building strong academic foundations. Through our core learning pillars, they develop key knowledge, life skills, multilingual competence and global awareness that prepare them for future success.
Academic achievement
Build strong foundations through structured learning and continuous progress.
Develop skills that support learning, wellbeing and personal growth.
Grow confidence in languages through immersion and targeted support.
International opportunities
Engage in global experiences that inspire curiosity, leadership and connection.
Academic achievement in Primary is driven by structured teaching, personalised support and continuous assessment. Phonics, introduced in Early Years, is strengthened in Years 1 and 2 to secure reading and writing, while reading is developed for both decoding and deep comprehension. Mathematics follows the White Rose mastery approach, guiding learning from concrete to pictorial and abstract understanding.
Progress is assessed daily through formative assessment aligned with key objectives. From Years 3 to 6, unit checkpoints and GL Progress Tests in English, Maths and Science provide consistent monitoring. Teachers scaffold learning, extend higher achievers and offer Stretch and Challenge programmes to deepen critical thinking. Families receive termly reports, attend regular meetings and take part in student-led conferences where pupils reflect on progress and targets.
Life competencies are embedded across Primary School and aligned with the International Primary Curriculum Personal Goals. Through IPC units, students develop confidence, collaboration, communication, resilience, responsibility and critical thinking as part of everyday learning.
Pupils work collaboratively, solve problems, reflect on their learning and take increasing ownership of their progress. Teachers make these competencies explicit, model positive behaviours and provide opportunities to apply them in meaningful contexts. By integrating life skills into academic learning, students develop strong habits, emotional intelligence and social awareness, preparing them to succeed both inside and beyond the classroom.
Primary students are immersed in English from the start, supported through modelling, key vocabulary, visual aids and peer interaction. From Year 3, all mainstream learners study a third language (Mandarin, French or German) taught weekly by specialist teachers.
Language support is structured through different learning tiers. Students needing additional support receive specialised language acquisition lessons through the MEP programme, while others access the curriculum with scaffolding and translanguaging strategies. Spanish learning follows Andalusian regulations, with groups organised by proficiency level. Progress in all languages is shared with families through reports and meetings.
International opportunities enrich Primary learning by connecting students with global peers and real-world challenges. Through Chess Masters competitions with other ISP schools and participation in ISP Scientists, pupils develop strategic thinking, collaboration and curiosity.
Each year, the school supports Street Child United, promoting social awareness and intercultural understanding. These experiences help students step beyond their comfort zones, build confidence and communicate effectively. Families are kept informed through newsletters, presentations and regular updates, enabling them to share and celebrate the impact of these global experiences.
What I like about this school is the variety of things we can do - it feels like there’s always something on: art competitions, drama, talent shows, interhouse events. It’s a lively place and we never know what’s going to happen next!
