Laude Secondary students have taken part in this year’s ILOS Filmmakers Programme, showcasing their scriptwriting, acting and filming skills by creating a short film with a strong moral message to enter the ILOS Filmmakers competition.The film, titled Breaking Boundaries, follows a main character who struggles to settle into a new school. As the story unfolds, one student finds the courage to stand up against her friends and do what is right by supporting the new student. Her actions inspire others to follow her example, reinforcing the importance of empathy and inclusion. Through this narrative, Laude students aimed to highlight how essential it is to foster an inclusive school environment and to show that standing up for what is right is not always easy, but it is always the right choice.The film features scenes shot both inside Laude San Pedro and in the surrounding natural environment, making use of San Pedro’s beautiful mountainous landscapes and coastline. Students from across all year groups took part in the Laude Filmmakers project and fully immersed themselves in the experience.Throughout the process, students demonstrated and developed key lifelong skills, including communication, teamwork and essential digital competencies. These skills will support them not only in school projects but also in their future academic and professional careers.The extracurricular programme was led by English teacher Mr Proctor, who held weekly meetings with students to help coordinate filming and editing. Balancing the project alongside a busy academic curriculum was challenging at times, but the students consistently rose to the challenge, driven by their enthusiasm for filming and their involvement in every stage of the creative process.Students were particularly motivated by the knowledge that their project would be competing against schools from around the world and judged by film industry professionals. The final edit of Breaking Boundaries has now been submitted, along with an original poster and trailer. The students are eagerly awaiting the ILOS Filmmakers awards ceremony, which will take place during the summer term.Regardless of the final outcome, Laude students can be extremely proud of their dedication and achievements, and several have already begun asking what next year’s ILOS Filmmakers project might involve
